Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and it has one of the strongest wind resources in the Southeast Asian region. This makes Vietnam very attractive for renewable energy investment. TWPC is developing the 48 MW Korea-Tra Vinh Wind Power Project (Phase I) (“The TWPC Project”) on the nearshore area of the south of Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam.
The TWPC Project will supply the electricity grid in Vietnam with clean renewable power and will support the government’s ambition of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and energy imports. As electricity demand in Vietnam is significantly increasing, the government has stipulated ambitious goals for the wind and solar power development. In 2016, Vietnam’s renewable energy targets were revised with targeted capacity for wind is 800 MW by 2020, 2,000 MW by 2024 and 6,000 MW by 2030. The TWPC Project will support the government to meet these targets.
